Shout Climate Change Africa (SCCA) was founded in 2016 under the companies act no5 of 2009  with company no SL10716SHOUT20491 by a small group of environmental activists from residents in Freetown who came together to share strategies for tackling environmental problems which poses threat to the lives and properties of the country – Sierra Leone, Africa and the rest of the world.

Shout Climate Change Africa (SCCA) is firmly dedicated to supporting the struggles of communities adversely affected by unsustainable exploitation of human and natural resources. Campaign priorities for 2017 -2020 include transforming societies away from depositing refuse dumps in drainages, fossil fuels and towards decentralized, community-owned and controlled sustainable energy, exposing and stopping land grabs which occur when land used by local communities is leased or sold to foreign investors, including corporations and governments.

SHOUT NOW OR NEVER! on climate change issues that may affect us all, formed two years ago which is made up of scores of professional from various expertise that work with other Organizations, Communities, NGOs, Institutions, Companies, Governmental MDAs and schools; with the single aim of providing services that address climate change, environmental problems and related issues. Since its started, SCCA has undertaken some environmental related assignments through working with local radios, televisions, newspapers and other organizations to jointly address community and environmental related concerns and problems.  Key among them was transforming communities from depositing refuse dumps in drainage, support and encouraged communities to contribute and priorities tree planting and reforestation activities; renewable energy usage to fossil fuels and towards decentralized community-owned and controlled sustainable energy. Shout Climate Change Africa is an independent  organization that acts to change attitudes and behaviors of individuals in order to protect, conserve the environment and promote peaceful, healthy living.

SCCA has a well-structured management system; it operates from a coordinating center in Freetown, with personnel in the Regional headquarters and hopes to have Focal Persons in all districts in Sierra Leone and Africa at large.

Over the years, the effect of climate change has greatly affected Sierra Leone. The rampant deforestation is very visible in the rate of reduction of the country’s forests cover (forest trees) due to but not limited to the followings

       1.  The rampant and uncontrolled/unsustainable charcoal burning

 2.    Illegal and rampant logging all over the country for industrial and domestic uses

       3.   Illegal tree cutting for smoking fish, salt processing and for firewood and charcoal burning.

 4.  Large scale Sand and mineral Mining activities clearing large tracts of forests land without compensatory reforestation programmes

All of the above have led to large exposed dry lands, large paved road surfaces and so greater runoff and massive erosion in some areas and longer dry spells. This situation nationwide is now unacceptable and cannot be allowed to continue unabated and unregulated.

Sustainable Development Goal 13 requires “Climate Action” since inaction will have a direct consequence on non-development of communities that are affected thereby encourage the circle of poverty.

To undertake “Climate Action” according to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13 requires solving those problems that are posed by climate change.

The targeted beneficiaries are charcoal burners, farmers and the underprivileged, with focus on youth and women, with a total rippling effect (indirect beneficiaries) of some 5,000 communities and other members that depends on charcoal for the heating/cooling source of energy

It will reduce the effect of climate change and improve the ecosystem/biodiversity as citizens negative activities on the environment will be controlled through greater awareness of citizens’ roles and responsibilities on climate change and the environment. This project hopes to assist in stopping further this deforestation as well as assisting the people to be economically independent. Detailed of the full project document has been developed and will be made available to you if you are interested to partner with SCCA.

WHAT WE DO

.

AGRICULTURE

SCCA campaigns for sustainable Agriculture by

rejecting genetically engineered organisms and encouraging people to undertake intensive economic agricultural practices unlike the primitive extensive one that waste land and reduces the green vegetation.

CLIMATE CHANGE CAMPAIGN

Greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture are an important contributor to Climate Change, especially when emissions from agriculture’s impact on land-use changes are involved. Most importantly, agriculture emissions will become more significant in the future as the world takes actions to address Climate Change more broadly.

FOOD SECURITY

The core function of SCCA is to advocate, conduct community education, monitoring and reporting through capacity building, partnership/networking with the government through it relevant ministries, departments and agencies, development organisations and communities to address various environment related problems that is in line with the Human Sustainable Development Goals and the National development trajectory that brings changes and opportunities to the country in general but the targeted beneficiaries in particular

.

TREE PLANTING

Creating a toxic free nature, SCCA catalyzes the energy revolution to address the number one threats facing our planet: Climate Change. It also hopes to defend our ocean by challenging wasteful and destructive fishing, and creating a global network of marine reserves

WASTE MANAGEMENT

The rampant and indiscriminate deposition of plastic wastes in Sierra Leone especially on the streets of the cities and big towns are not only eyesore but also heavily polluting the drainages and our waters.

As the World including Sierra Leone continues to be greatly affected by Climate Change and Environment disasters there is a dare need to address this issue.

The Sustainable National Food Crop Production through the Planting of self-sustainable Economic Plants of Banana, Plantain and Pineapple for the rural Women and Youth of Sierra Leone at Chiefdom to District level to address Food Security, Poverty Alleviation and Climate Change in line with the with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 2 and 13 respectively. This project was planned by SOUTH CLIMATE CHANGE AFRICA (SCCA) in response to a nationwide research finding of easy to grow and high economic return food crops for the cultivation of Banana and Plantains in each section of each chiefdom to districts of Sierra Leone. The project will be implemented in ALL the rural areas of Sierra Leone in phases, as a way of making the participants economically self-sufficient as well as addressing the environmental issue of rampant deforestation (caused by the slash and burn upland food crop production) that is contributing to global warming. Here they will be using the low land (Boli) area together with the banks of swamps/rivers/streams and will not be burning the grass brushed but used it as manure around the plants. The broad and green leaves of both Banana and Plantain will act as a good sink in removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere thereby reducing Sierra Leone emission budget.
