Since its inception, SCCA has undertaken several community engagements resulting in the establishment of voluntary CSO partners in three districts to report on climate change, conservation and environmental issues in their communities.

This project therefore hopes to mobilize the targeted community and engage them to rejuvenating this vital ecology of the forest in these places, whereby more trees are planted for every one cut during the charcoal burning process.

It will create a short impact employment for the youths of the community, and they will claim ownership and protection for it and the ecosystem of these areas will be restored.

Alongside the rejuvenation will include the massive sensitization and advocacy for the community. It will easily be replicated in other places. Land use, climate change will be included in the posters and be used for Exhibition on Wheels in order to reach more people.

TARGET BENEFICIARIES

The targeted beneficiaries are some 500, charcoal burners, farmers and the underprivileged, with focus on youth and women, with a total rippling effect (indirect beneficiaries) of some 5,000 community and other members that depends on charcoal for the heating/cooling source of energy

It will reduce the effect of climate change and improve the ecosystem/biodiversity as citizens negative activities on the environment will be controlled through greater awareness of citizens’ roles and responsibilities on climate change and the environment. It will also create employment for the youths of the communities, and they will claim ownership and protection for it and the biodiversity of these areas will be restored. It is in line with three of the strategic conventions on climate change related issues especially in the contribution to the overall emission reduction (through removal by sink) and that of the ecological and biodiversity restoration. The economic returns from the trees planted will capacitate the youths and communities in the ensuring cooperate responsibility cost benefit sharing that this project will produce.
